Thatch, Metal and Plastic

Thatch, Metal and Plastic

Village houses were generally made of mud with thatch roofs. Some had tarps thrown over the roofs in places where they had leaked. Laundry was hung to dry across the front porches. USAID and other international agencies clearly had a presence in the villages we visited. There was always a small church or mosque and a village school.

During the rainy season, the village paths turn to muddy streams. Roofs must be constantly repaired, and ad hoc bridges appear wherever needed. Nobody wore shoes.
