The Otavalo market is a visual treat of vibrant colors and woven goods of all kinds. Some of the goods are made local and some are imports. Telling the difference is difficult for the unskilled eye but after a short time walking through the market it became relatively easy to tell. Mostly we just engage with the vendors.
We did enjoy the coca vendor and bought some of the coca leaves to try. They are like putting dried bay leaves into your checks and waiting forever for your saliva to soften them. Not particularly pleasant and really not much affect other than a slight jitteriness—kinda like a bad cup of coffee.
